Accessibility
Designing so the work reaches people regardless of how they perceive it. Not a compliance task; a wider definition of the audience.
Accessibility is the craft of not deciding who the audience is by accident: contrast that excludes low vision, video that excludes the deaf, interactions that exclude the keyboard, each is an unposted sign on the door. The work reaches whoever it was built to reach, and defaults are exclusionary without malice.
A wider definition of the audience is also simply better craft: captions serve the commuter, contrast serves sunlight, focus order serves power users, reduced-motion settings serve the dizzy and the distracted alike. This site honours the reduced-motion preference and holds its contrast deliberately. None of that is compliance; it is finishing the work.
