Colour space

The defined range of colours a device can record or show. Work outside it and colours you can see simply will not survive.

A colour space is the gamut a device can honestly speak: film, screens and print each hold a different territory of colour, and work made in one territory must be translated to survive in another. Colours outside the destination's range do not argue; they simply clip to the nearest sayable thing.

The working defence is translation on purpose: grade in a defined space, tag every export with the profile it means, and preview in the destination's range before shipping. Untagged files invite each screen to guess, and screens guess differently. Our gold reads as our gold everywhere precisely because nothing about it is left to interpretation.
