Frame rate

How many images pass per second. Twenty-four feels like film; higher feels like glass. The number is a texture, not only a spec.

Frame rate is texture before it is arithmetic. Twenty-four frames carry the stutter the century of cinema taught us to read as story; thirty reads as television's present tense; sixty as glass, the unblinking look of sport and games. The viewer feels the register change without knowing what moved.

Choose it as a register and hold it: mixed rates inside one piece read as error. Our web loops run at twenty-five, the cinema's texture at the broadcast-friendly step, matching the reference sites we measured. High rates are a tool with a meaning; smoothness is not free of connotation.
