Monochrome

One colour, in all its strengths: a work restricted to the tints and shades of a single hue. Restraint worn as identity.

Monochrome is the palette at its most disciplined: a single hue carries the entire surface, and variety must come from value, lighter, darker, and from texture. Deprived of colour contrast, a composition reveals whether its bones, hierarchy, spacing, proportion, actually hold.

It is also a proofing instrument: view any design in greyscale and the truth appears, contrast that survives is real, contrast that vanishes was only ever hue deep. Interfaces must pass this test for accessibility reasons; brands pass it for tougher ones, print, embroidery, engraving. What works in one colour works everywhere.
