Two-shot

A frame holding two people at once. Relationship made visible: the space between them is the scene.

The two-shot holds a relationship inside one frame: both parties, and, crucially, the distance between them. That gap is the scene's true subject, its width, who closes it, who restores it, and the frame refuses the edit's trick of splitting the pair into separate worlds.

Keeping both in frame is a commitment: no cutting away to manage the audience's sympathy, both performances live simultaneously or the shot fails. That is why two-shots read as honest. The grammar transfers whole: any composition holding two elements, a mark and a headline, a portrait and a caption, is a two-shot, and the space between them is the meaning.
