Aspect fit

Fitting an image inside a frame without cropping, letterboxing the gaps. Respecting the picture over filling the space.

Aspect fit is deference: the image arrives whole, untouched by the frame's opinion, and the mismatch is absorbed as empty margins rather than cropped content. Its sibling, fill, makes the opposite promise, a full frame at the price of edges the composition loses.

Respecting the picture over filling the space is a per-surface judgement: a client's logo, a poster, a composed still deserve fit, nothing about them is ours to trim. Atmosphere can afford fill, which is why our photographic slots cover and our upcoming logo plates will contain. Choosing the wrong mode is how marks get beheaded by enthusiastic frames.
