The crane frees the camera from the floor: rising through heights no operator stands at, it converts position into perspective. As the frame lifts, individuals become figures, figures a crowd, a street a map, scale arriving smoothly, in one breath, without a cut.

An ending into a farewell names its most famous duty, the rise that withdraws from the finished story and hands it to the world, but cranes also open films, descending from geography into the particular. The move is expensive and its grammar is generous: leaving upward reads as blessing far more than escape.
