Dolly

Moving the whole camera smoothly on wheels or track. The move that feels like the audience itself leaning in.

The dolly moves the camera's whole body through space, smoothly, on wheels or track, and parallax does the persuading: near things slide past far things, and the world acquires depth no zoom can counterfeit. A zoom changes magnification; a dolly changes where we stand.

The audience leaning in is the classic slow push, physical attention paid to a face or a fact, and its vocabulary is precise: in for significance, out for abandonment or scale, alongside for accompaniment. Because the move is felt as our own, it must be motivated; an unmotivated dolly is someone shoving the viewer.
