Licence
Permission with edges: what may be used, where, how long, for how much. The difference between owning work and renting it.
Nearly everything a production touches is licensed rather than owned: fonts, music, stock, sometimes the footage itself. Each licence is a shape, territories, term, media, exclusivity, and the shape must contain the actual use, today's and the archive's, because breaches surface years later, in public.
The working practice is a rights ledger per project: what was licensed, from whom, under what, expiring when, filed with the master. Clients deserve the same clarity in reverse, our deliverables state what they own outright and what rides on licences they must maintain. Ambiguity here is not flexibility; it is a deferred invoice.
