Pickups are the edit writing back to production: the cut exposes a missing look, an unclear geography, a line that needs saying, and a small shoot retrieves exactly that. They are planned humility, no schedule anticipates everything a timeline will teach.

The craft is continuity across a gulf of weeks: matching light, lens, wardrobe and the actor's exact state for eight seconds that must sit invisibly inside footage shot in another month. Budgets that pretend pickups will not happen simply pay for them under a worse name. The wise production books the day in advance and hopes not to need all of it.
