Pixel

The smallest square of a screen image, a single point of colour. Zoom far enough and every digital picture admits it is only this.

The pixel is the confession at the bottom of every screen image: one square, one colour, no more. Everything, the portrait, the film, the wordmark, is an arrangement of these admissions, held below the eye's threshold so the illusion of continuity holds.

It matters as a unit of honesty: design happens in pixels, and respecting them, aligning hairlines to them, sizing type for them, knowing when a screen packs four into the space of one, separates crisp surfaces from vaguely soft ones. The pixel forgives nothing; it renders exactly what it was given.
