Silhouette

The subject exposed for the light behind it: shape kept, surface surrendered. Identity by outline alone.

A silhouette is exposure taking sides: the background is given the light, and the figure becomes pure contour, readable as form, unreadable as face. What is lost in detail returns as force, gesture and posture do all the acting, and the audience completes the figure from within.

It is also the merciless test of shape: marks, logos and title figures are judged in silhouette because outline is what memory keeps. On set it wants a strong backlight and a withheld fill; in identity work it is the reduction every mark must survive. Our traveller's design, identity held in posture, is silhouette doctrine applied to character.
