Spec

The technical contract of a deliverable: dimensions, format, bitrate, colour, naming. Boring on purpose; every ambiguity here is a future phone call.

A spec translates intent into measurables: 1920 by 1080, ProRes 422, 25 fps, Rec.709, stereo at minus 14 LUFS, named thus. Its virtue is that compliance is checkable by a machine and disputable by no one; the file either meets the sheet or it does not.

Specs earn their keep at boundaries, between studio and platform, studio and broadcaster, this year and the archive's future, which is why writing them precisely is a kindness to everyone downstream. Our video plan carries its own spec table for exactly this reason. The document is dull; the afternoons it saves are not.
