Cinema 273

Title sequence

The designed opening that names the work and sets its key. A film’s first promise, made in type and motion before a word is spoken.

The title sequence is the work's overture: names delivered as promised tone. Type, motion, music and image rehearse the film's temperament before its first scene, so the audience arrives already tuned. Done well, it is a short film about the film, made of typography.

As a discipline it sits exactly where this studio lives, at the seam of design and cinema: a wordmark's letterforms, a palette, a rhythm of cuts, all carrying narrative weight. The craft is restraint against spoiling: the sequence should establish key, not summarise plot. Our motion work treats every brand's opening seconds as a title sequence in miniature.
