Any finished piece the work can reuse: a logo file, a still, a music stem, a template. Value stored in retrievable form.

Calling a file an asset is a claim about its future: it will be needed again, so it is finished to standard, named by convention, described, and stored where the next person can find it. The asset mindset turns production's exhaust, stills, plates, cutdowns, layouts, into a compounding library.

The economics are quiet and real: a studio with a deep, ordered asset base starts every project halfway up the hill, while its opposite rebuilds the same wheel under every deadline. The tax is curation, assets must be pruned and updated or the library silts into landfill, and landfill with a naming convention is still landfill.
