Composition

The arrangement of every element in a frame, so that placement itself carries meaning. Nothing sits where it does by accident.

Composing a frame means assigning meaning to position. Centre is a claim of importance; the edge is tension; the lower third is ground. Distance between elements reads as relationship: things that belong together sit together, and a gap is information, not absence.

The habit that builds composition is asking of every element: why here and not elsewhere? If the honest answer is that it fit, the arrangement is storage, not composition. On our own pages each block has an argument for its position, which is why moving one thing usually means renegotiating them all.
