Copy

The words that do commercial work: selling, explaining, inviting, reassuring. Writing judged not by admiration but by what happens next.

Copy is prose with a job: every line either moves the reader toward understanding and action or stands in the way. Its virtues are a craftsman's, clarity, rhythm, economy, specificity, and its vanity is the pun that pleases the writer while costing the reader a beat of comprehension.

Voice is what keeps working copy from being generic: the same information, phrased in the brand's temperament, does double duty as identity. Every caption and button label on these pages was written, not filled in, because copy is the brand speaking. Where design decides how it looks, copy decides who is talking.
