Voice
How a brand sounds when it speaks, across every word it writes. Consistent voice is trust made audible.
Voice is the personality that survives paraphrase. Not the words themselves but the temperament choosing them: what this brand would never say, how it delivers bad news, whether it explains or asserts. Readers assemble it from every caption and error message, whether it was designed or not.
The practical tool is a short doctrine with teeth: three qualities, each with a never beside it. Plain, never blunt. Warm, never chummy. Then the hard part, holding the line in the small places, invoices, cookie notices, rejection emails, because voice is believed at exactly the moments nobody thinks anyone is performing.
