White

Not the absence of design but its oldest material: the paper, the pause, the light a surface is allowed to keep.

White is the ground most work stands on, and it is never neutral: warm whites lean toward paper and hospitality, cold whites toward laboratory and screen. Choosing a white is choosing a temperature for everything placed upon it, which is why our paper tone is a warmed ivory rather than the hex of pure glare.

As a working material white is spent like any colour: white space frames, white type punches out of dark grounds, a white page is a statement of confidence in the content it carries. The discipline is protecting it, white survives only where nothing is added, and something can always be added.
